Third Day of Third Grade!

Today we had some fun activities to celebrate the third day of third grade!  I have been encouraging the students to bring their green folders to school and then home every day.  At the end of the day the students each color in the star for the day.  There is a key at the top of the page that lets you know what that color stands for.  We have started having a three question test every day over a different skill that third grade students should show mastery in.  Depending on the outcome of that test, the students are then put in groups for a twenty minute intervention time later in the day.  During that 20 minutes, two of the third grade teachers take the students who have mastered the concepts and push them even farther with that topic.  One of the teachers takes the students who need a lot of help with that concept, while the fourth teacher takes the students who were really close to mastery but might just need an extra lesson.  These groups will change every day, as well as which teachers teach which group.  So far, I have seen some great improvement!  Remember there is no school on Monday due to the holiday.  I will send home missing work notices on Friday.  Please ask your student daily if they have any homework from assignments not finished in class.  I hope all kids are reading 20 minutes nightly!  This is a great group of kids......they haven't even complained much about the heat!  If you ever have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email, call, or stop in and see me.

New School Year: 2010-2011

Dear Parents and Third Grade Students,
I am excited for a new school year, and our theme: "We are Wild About Third Grade!"  On the left side of this page is a link to our course disclosure and things that might be unique to our classroom.  Please click on it and check it out.  I loved having a blog last year, it saved a lot of paper, problems with lost notes, and parents could always go back and find information (instead of trying to remember after a note had been thrown away).  Please check the blog frequently as I will try to update it regularly.  Remember.....school starts on August 29th!!
