Pro Assembly

Thursday before school got out, we had a pro assembly.  These two awesome girls both received awards from our class.  Great job!  I hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday!  Thank you so much for all of the thoughtful gifts that were given to me this year.  I really appreciate it!

Christmas is Almost Here!

I can't believe how fast time seems to be flying by.  I guess that means I must be having fun!  I have a great class this year.  I found out last night while talking to a parent that we might have some misconceptions about the reading at home minutes.  Our goal is for each child to read at least 100 minutes per week or 20 minutes per school night.  If your child reads more than that, please record ALL of their minutes in the folder.  Our class is keeping track of minutes read for a school-wide reading program. 

Remember, December 22nd is the last day of school before Christmas break, and then we begin school again on Tuesday, January 3rd. 

I have had some wonderful examples of children acting in very selfless ways these past few weeks.  I really appreciate the Christmas spirit that comes from this.  Thank you my great class!

Please make sure the students keep reading over the Christmas break.  Also, our oral speaking assignment for January will be a "How To" presentation.  So, start thinking of ideas.  We will have a model demonstration for the kids on January 3rd, with presentations beginning that Friday.

Next Tuesday, December 13^th, we will be making some ornaments.  In order to do this activity, we need hammers.  I know that sounds crazy, but I promise it will be fun and orderly. If your student can bring a hammer on Tuesday morning, it would be very helpful.  Please put your last name on the hammer so they do not get mixed up.  The smaller the hammer the better, but a regular size hammer will work fine.  I am emphasizing to the students that they cannot swing their backpacks with hammers inside and to be careful bringing them, but if you could also repeat those instructions, that would be great. 

Also, quick reminder that the book fair is going on right now at school.  It is a buy one get one free book fair, so now is a great time to get books for Christmas gifts.  Come and support our great PTA at the book fair!

December is Here!

Time flies when you are having fun!  I can't believe how fast this year has gone by already. 

Now that the cold weather has officially hit, please make sure your child is bringing cold weather gear to wear at break.  In the morning when I get the kids, there are lots of complaints about cold ears and hands that would be solved with a hat and gloves/mittens.  If you can't afford hats or gloves, please let me know, and I will work something out. 

Please make sure your child is still reading nightly for 20 minutes.  Our missing work has greatly diminished in class. Yeah!  Please also have your child practice his/her math facts nightly.  Each child brings home a timed test each day that has an unfinished side for them to practice at home.  The multiplication facts are being learned, but with a little more practice they will all be pros! 

I am loving hearing the family tradition stories today in class.  Please remember to check which Friday your child presents.  Thanks so much for your support.  Thanks for sharing these fabulous children with me!  I sure love each and every one of them.
